(01)Project Overview

The Project

Comfort in Discomfort is an experiential UGG campaign built to bring the brand into the higher-fashion space through a contemporary cultural lens. Anchored by FEEL HOUSE — a multi-sensory retail and community experience in Brooklyn and Los Angeles — the campaign reframes comfort from a tool of escape into a grounding force that breaks the behavioral loop of overstimulation. Led by spoken-word-style poetry and a warm, conceptual visual language, it spans experiential, OOH, print, and social.

The Challenge

UGG is shorthand for cozy, everyday ease — strongly tied to early-2000s loungewear nostalgia. With a strong comfort identity but seasonal perception, a premium price point, and easy-to-copy silhouettes, the challenge was to establish UGG as a fashion leader with a distinct point of view: creating cultural conversations instead of following trends, and building deeper emotional resonance with Gen Z and younger Millennials.

The Insight

What if comfort is no longer comforting? Instead of reaching for comfort to relax, we reach for it to avoid — disappearing into doomscrolling, bingeing, and retail therapy. Gen Z lives in cycles of overstimulation, burnout, reset attempts, and a return to overstimulation. There is comfort in discomfort: real comfort should not remove us from reality, it should return us to it.

(02)Concept Boards

The Direction

Where the visual language was set — mood, tone, and the creative territory the campaign would live in.

FEEL HOUSE 'The Return' concept board — six-stage journey, light progression, and material palette
The Return — a six-stage sensory journey (Threshold, The Loop Begins, The Descent, Compression, The Lowest Point, Release). Light fades and softness intensifies as you move from distraction toward presence.
FEEL HOUSE interior concept render — wool landscape, travertine plinths, and warm lighting
FEEL HOUSE interior — wool-mound seating, travertine display plinths, and trees ground the space in warmth, texture, and stillness.
(03)Research & Exploration

The Groundwork

Research, references, and early exploration that shaped the strategic thinking before any design began.

Editorial placements in DAZED and Highsnobiety
Cultural placement — editorial spreads in DAZED and Highsnobiety position UGG inside the fashion conversation, not the trend cycle.
Print campaign — 'About being' conceptual editorial
Print — a conceptual editorial direction in warm, neutral tones, composed on the rule of thirds and led by spoken-word poetry.
(04)Process Work

The Process

Sketches, iterations, and the working decisions that moved the idea forward.

FEEL HOUSE threshold — guests trade their phone for shoes at the UGG entry desk
01 Threshold — guests trade their phone for slippers at the entry. The world slows the moment you step in.
FEEL HOUSE corridor — illuminated archway with the line 'the more you distance yourself, the harder it is to find your way out'
The Descent — wool-floored corridors carry projected poetry: 'the more you distance yourself, the harder it is to find your way out.'
(05)Development

The Build

Refining concepts into polished, production-ready directions.

FEEL HOUSE central retail space — wool landscape with UGG footwear on travertine plinths
Release — at the center, retail is integrated into experience: UGG footwear rests on travertine amid a soft wool landscape, returning you to presence.
'Return to Feel' keepsake — wool pouch, cast pendant, and a printed reflection card
'Return to Feel' keepsake — a tactile token visitors collect at the end: a wool pouch, cast pendant, and card reading 'You made the journey. Now, return to feel.'

Architectural OOH window placement of a foot in a UGG slipper
Architectural OOH — a monumental takeover framing a single, quiet moment of comfort.
Poster series on a concrete wall — the same feeling, the same motions, the same escape
OOH Posters — 'The same feeling. The same motions. The same escape. Over and over.'
UGG Instagram Reel — 'We scroll to leave the moment. But the moment doesn't leave us.'
Social Reels — 'We scroll to leave the moment. But the moment doesn't leave us. Comfort is learning to stay.' #ComfortInDiscomfort
